RE: Here's one for you!! Dogs and propane..........

...
Here's the 1st question:
For the RV'ers with big dogs, do you travel with them in the truck bed (crated) or in the camper? Is it illegal / safe to have them in the camper while going down the road?
Bryan
It can get pretty warm in a RV while towing, I don't suggest you keep your dogs in the RV legal or not.

RE: GMC/Chevy - Use of Tow-Haul or "Manual" with new Ally

On my 06 3500 DMAX/Alley I leave it in drive and use the TH until it starts searching for gears, up and down shifting, then I use the Manual to hold it in the the lower gear till the road evens out.
I also use manual when going down steep grades to hold the rig in a lower gear.
You are correct in your reading of the operation of "Manual".
My mpg improved after I put some miles on the truck.

RE: auqamagic IV toliet

Yes I have, more then I would like.
I found that letting the flush pedal snap back with more force rather then letting it return more gently helps. Your spring cartridge may require lubrication or may have become weak requiring replacement. Be sure the gaskets are clean and properly maintained.

RE: COMPOSTING TOILETS

I used a composting toilet for quite a few years while living remotely in the mountains. This was in a log cabin not an RV.
It worked fine in the cabin as we also lived on solar power it saved a lot of water pumping and the need for a septic tank. It was way better then a outhouse at 20 or more below zero.
If the compost is not healthy it will have a unpleasant odor. If it dies the odor will be more then unpleasant and so will to work to correct the reason the compost died.
Thinking back on it's operation I have to say that I will stay with my black tank and dump stations. There is more work involved with a composting toilet then meets the eye.
I suggest you read the operating instructions and specifications closely to insure that you can meet them in your planned RV use.

RE: Direct TV Distance Package

Yes you can get PBS & CW as well in the DNS package, you have to request them and pay extra for them, but they are available.
Yes this is true for CW but not necessarily for PBS. I can not get PBS try as I may. It has to do with the local station for your billing address and they granting permission for the feed. I was unable to get this permission even though I am currently over 2000 miles from their broadcast area and do not expect to return. DTV has been unable to assist much.

RE: Best Computer protection

I"m not a fan of Norton or McAffee.. epically McAffee, but that's another story or two.
I use AVG-Free from Girsoft, Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware and a thing called CCleaner which is basically a cookie tosser. but can do some other fun stuff too.
Of all the registery cleaners I've tried (3) it worked and did NO damage... The other two did damage.
Spybot and Adaware are similar in what they do and both are excellent, IMHO. Still, it helps to know just what they are doing so a reading of the help files is in order if you have never used these tools before. I use JV16 Power Tools (Payware) for the registry. Never had a mishap...yet.

RE: Best Computer protection

As far as a Anti Virus, note: I'm not an expert, goes I use Eset NOD32 AV. I've been very happy with it for two years.
I would strongly recommend that you are sure all of Norton is uninstalled/removed before attempting to install another brand of AV. Do a search on google for Norton removal issues and solutions.
PS: With the luck you have been having, stay away from my electronics... lol

RE: Condensation while running a/c

I've found that the only way to prevent mine from dripping is to pitch the rig slightly towards the door/awning side. If the rig is perfectly level it will drip inside.
Sounds like one of the two, or both, condensate drain holes may be partially plugged. It should not drip inside under normal circumstances.

RE: XM Radio Question

Yes it does. My understanding is that existing radios will work as they always do. To get A La Cart needs a different radio.
From their pdf file after clicking A la Carte at the top of the page. - "Available only for subscribers using next generation receivers who select channels via the Internet."

RE: XM Radio Question

Most of the current Sirius radio's are "guaranteed" to work after the merger is complete.
J
This is true, however, you will need a new generation radio to get the A La Carte programming.
yes, that was indeed my concern.

RE: Awning tube snapped in half !

I don't think the drilled holes had any effect on the awning tube. I have seen many do the same without the center support holes. The tube just can't handle the weight and bends in the middle to the infamous "V".
Your fabric may have been stretched by the weight of the water and may have to be replaced as well. Your insurance should cover the damage.
Don't feel to bad, you are not the first to have left the awning level nor will you be the last. I'm glad no one was seriously injured.

RE: Brand new to RVing.... AC isn't cold.

Did it ever blow cold air? If so I would check the filter and at the same time check the coil above the filter to see if it's frozen.
Beyond that I let my Visa card fix it, lol.

RE: Truck pulls to one side, towing or not...

A lot of tires actually have the radial belts shift. (Believe it or not). It is very easy to check, simply switch front tires. Put left on right and right on left. Then go and drive your truck. If it then pulls to the left, most likely nothing is wrong with alignment, put spare on left and drive again. If pull is gone, then you have found your bad tire. Some times, but not often, it will be the other tire causing the pull. But if your pull changes, you have found out that you have a radial tire with a bad belt.
This information is from 34 years running an automotive (GM Dealer service department) with hands on experience.
Yep, I have had tires cause a pull to the right. Switched tires and problem solved.
Same here took my 3500 06 D/A in for tire rotation and it came out with a hard pull to the left. Took it right back and the dealer pulled the left front tire and put it on the inside rear, problem solved! Of Course that tire will stay on the inside rear till repalacement time comes.

RE: Water Pressure

As Do N Dat stated, most in line regulators severly restrict flow. Check this site for several adjustable Watts regulators. I use one and have never had an issue with pressure or flow.

RE: Site to review specific workamp experiences?

Thanks jon but I don't really see the reports. Maybe you have to sign in to get at them? Do they actually post negative reviews? Seems that they get a lot of advertising from the campgrounds and other employers. I suspect that would make them hesitant to let negative reports go. Tell me if I'm wrong because I haven't seen them.
Starting a website for workamper reviews may have to be added to my long list of things to do. Yes, I know there are problems with the idea like libel/slander laws and outright false reports (both good and bad) but I think ththat could be dealt with somehow.
You have to be a paid subscriber to "Workamper News" and register on the forums to see the "Workamper Experiences" forum. It is moderated and requires a specific format under certain rules to post. All posts are approved before they appear.
Yes, there are negative posts as well as positive. There are also Information Requested posts to which other workampers respond with their experiences. It seems to be very well organized and fairly active.
